5 Ways You Can Use CBD

By Brett Weeder - February 12, 2020

There are a myriad of ways to enjoy the benefits of CBD oil. You can ingest it, apply it topically, inhale it, or absorb it sublingually. Whatever the reason you want to take CBD, there is a method that works for you.

How should I take CBD?

1) Oil or Tincture
The most common way to take CBD is as an oil or tincture. A tincture is an extract of plant material suspended in a carrier oil. The best and quickest absorption is to place CBD under your tongue for 1-2 minutes. This helps CBD enter your bloodstream quickly. Under your tongue there is a mucous membrane that contains a plethora of capillaries that are a direct route to your blood. This way, CBD can bypass the harsh environment of the digestive tract and spends less time in transit. However, some people also swallow larger doses of oil. Your digestive system processes the oil and takes it to the liver where it finally enters your blood. As the path is longer, you will need to take larger doses to feel the same effect.

Tip: It is important to remember to shake well before each use to standardize each dose.

2) Softgels
Many people prefer not to taste CBD, even though the taste of tinctures is fairly mild. Softgels are a great option for anyone who wants to avoid the taste of hemp. They can also help deliver a consistent, standardized dose to people who have a hard time remembering to shake tinctures or measure them precisely. Softgels are also recommended for pets as it is easier to ensure they swallow the entire dose.

3) Added to Food
Some people believe that adding CBD oil to fatty foods helps it to digest more efficiently. Common foods for CBD oil to be paired with include oatmeal, smoothies, and coffee. As an oil, you can also cook it into foods as a substitution for some of the oil in the recipe. Although some people are concerned with optimizing their CBD by heating it before ingesting, it is unnecessary. CBD is adequately heated during extraction to maximize it’s effectiveness by removing excess carbon and oxygen.

4) Lotions
Another great option is to rub CBD oil directly onto your skin in a lotion. This is especially effective when you use CBD for pain relief and you can rub it directly on the affected area. Although less CBD enters your blood compared to ingesting or inhaling CBD, rubbing it topically is more strategic. The CBD gets to the muscles and joints faster and is more concentrated on the affected area.

5) Inhaling
Vaping has become increasingly popular for taking many different types of medications and supplements. It offers a way to inhale supplements without causing damage to your lungs. Inhalation is an effective delivery method because your lungs are another quick route to your bloodstream. There are many ways to vape, but one of the easiest is a vape pen. You can buy cartridges full of CBD oil, and simply pop it into the pen and start inhaling.

Whatever method you decide is best for you, we highly recommend giving CBD oil a chance to improve your health. Whether you suffer from a chronic condition or not, CBD helps your body function more efficiently. It offers an abundance of health benefits for anyone.
